That's my grandfather Tom holding Casey, his dog, with his six brothers at Menzies on the Australian goldfields in 1896. Full of irrepressible faith and optimisim, they sponsored their gold prospecting by selling fresh drinking water which they made from salty bore water in this still. We make our wine here on the edge of the desert with the same pure spirit of enthusiasm.

Infinitesimal watering, an absolute maximum of two tonnes of fruit per acre, and an obsession with maintaining a vineyard that's "a polyculture of trees, vines, plants and creatures" gives us a hearty, characterful, beautifully balanced living red with a bouquet of cosmetics and cream as much as wild live berries. Sinuous lithe, perfectly tannic: it's a miracle."
